More Ideas for Routine Argument Writing:
Mali video --The video, "Lilly Like Wilson," is a spoken-word performance by Taylor Mali about a student who changes her mind while researching an argument. CRWP participants have used this video as a prompt for writing into the day for students or during professional development ("Write about a time when you changed your mind during an argument. Tell about the situation and why you changed your mind."). This invitation is found at https://youtu.be/m2txzldvuCk.
Making Informal Arguments
Giving students the opportunity to read what others are thinking about the issue and then taking their own turn at doing the same is another way to keep argument at the forefront. We create a flashdraft that can be developed further at a later time, after students have learned more about claim, evidence, and line of reasoning.
In the following lessons, students practice text annotation and marginal annotation.
