Kentucky Writing Project
PD Opportunities for Summer June 7-9: Writing with English Learners. June 7-9, Lexington. Learn classroom-tested approaches to helping ELs conquer academic writing. Irina McGrath, ESL resource teacher. Elem, MS, HS. June 20-24 and/or June 27-July 1: WRITE CAMP, Waggener HS, Louisville. 30-60 hrs. Come one week or both. Focus: Learning to write in a variety of genres as well as experiencing how to teach writing and confer with student writers. Open to any teacher, K-12, who wants to improve his/her own writing in order to teach/model for students. Teachers will learn and work alongside and with students, Grades 6-12. June 20-21: Zoom In, Farristown MS (Berea, KY). 10 hrs. Focus: Teaching through reading/writing about primary and secondary sources in American History (recommended for teachers of grades 5, 8, 11, SS and ELA). Registration includes free access during 2016-17 to online teacher dashboard and student research/drafting support (regularly a $3/student value). KWP ZOOM IN Social Studies Leadership Team. June 27-29: Opinion Writing, K-5. Waggener HS, Louisville. 18 hours. Focus: What does opinion writing look like when you focus on college-ready writing skills? Adapted from the proven research-based work of the National Writing Project. June 27-29: Argument Writing, 5-12. Waggener HS, Louisville. 18 hours.
